A Few Movies

The Matador, starring Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, and Hope Davis

3 clubs out of 5: ♣♣♣

This is an interesting movie that starts as if it is an action(ish) film.  As the movie progresses, however, it becomes evident that it is not such a movie.  Rather, the movie is centered around an interesting developing story.  The movie invites one to look into the soul of an interesting character.  There are times of the movie that are not well developed and get confusing in the explanation of the story.  Thankfully they are all pulled together in the end.

Thank You For Smoking, starring Maria Bello, Aaron Eckhart, Adam Brody, Sam Elliot, Katie Holmes, Rob Lowe, William H. Macy, Robert Duvall, and some others.

5 clubs out of 5: ♣♣♣♣♣

Within the first 30 seconds of the movie one cannot stop, but think this to be a comedy.  The movie is an interesting look to the other side of story on cigarettes.  Throughout the movie one is introduced into the art of arguments and bending moral ideas.  The acting truly develops interesting characters that make one think it is not a movie, rather it is not till the well lined story and narrating does one realize it is just fiction.  In the end one may find himself rooting for the so called "Merchant of Death."  Also, it makes one think of their own beliefs and reasons for his actions.  The movie is a book by Christopher Buckley, but I have not read this book so my review is based on the movie.

Snow

The first snow of the season is here, hopefully it is not the last.  I like snow, as long as it does not interferr with my travel plans or knock out the power and cut me off from my hobby of video games.

Mornings

We spend time in a state of sleep that allows our brains rest and process the day that occurred, and possibly the day ahead.  Sleep is not a time of utter rest because during this time our bodies still age, they tell us to live our lives to the fullest...so wouldn't that require no sleep?  Then it came to me in my dreams...sleep is a beautiful thing because it allows us to live the day  we just  went through and the days to come in a state of calm.  Sleep calms our minds  allowing us the ability to be prepared.   If one does not sleep then they will not be prepared because they allow their minds go to mush due to the strain placed upon it through sleep deprivation.

Mornings are another interesting piece of our lives to look at.  We wake from a period of rest to confront the day, but some are prepared earlier than others.  I am personally am  a morning person, usually by like 10 I am ready for sleep once again, this may be due to the fact I wake up at 5:30 every week day and closer to 6 on the weekends.   But I feel content in this, because when I wake I get to see things few others on campus witness.  As I go off to Gloucester High School I drive into the sun rise.  The pink strip of sun  hovering over the  whitening sky.  It reminds me of the beautiful things in this world and calms my mind and heart, preparing me for the day.  When I go to the gym I walk out of Bromley into the morning haze (the time when it is still dark, but not pitch black) and see the peace and calmness of Gordon College.  There are no students rushing from one location  to the next, no grounds keepers caring for the quad, no teachers coming in their noisy cars to work, and no real traffic along Grapevine Rd.  It is utter peace and quiet, the kind that people try to achieve by running into the woods.  Every morning I experience this and am amazed.  Few things can compare to this feeling.  I wish others could experience what I do.

Maybe I said a lot of nothing, or maybe I said a lot of something.  You decide.

Woods

When taking a walk off of the larger trails at Gordon follow these simple rules:

1) Bring someone with a huge heart
2) Bring a GPS tracker in case you end up somewhere like Alaska.
3) Bring a watch so that you can tell that someone that you did not waste 2 hours of their life.
4) Finally, just stick to the orange marked trails, those are the ones on Gordon campus.

Sean Fournier

Sean Fournier
It Means Nothing

Well I’ve seen mountains crumble to the wicked sea.
And I’ve had angels cry for me and cry for me.
And I’ve seen stars fall by the thousands like they were finally free.

And I’ve seen men fight like there’s no tomorrow
And wake up with the sun and still not smile
But after all that we’ve been through,
It means nothing without you
And we will be together

This love can move a mountain
And I’ve wished on every star.
This love can stop a war
And let you find out who you are,
But after all that we’ve been through,
It means nothing without you
And we will be together forever.

I’ve seen skies reflect the ocean
And I’ve heard someone’s prayers
Whispered in the wind.
And I’ve seen crowds fall silent
And all you’ve left to do is look around

This love can move a mountain
And I’ve wished on every star.
This love can stop a war
And let you find out who you are
But after all we’ve been through,
It means nothing without you
And we will be together forever.

Meaning:
This is a story of an immortal man. He has lived for centuries and has seen and experienced many great things.  He falls in love with a girl who will eventually die, and he tells her that out of all the things he has seen, it doesn’t compare to the way she makes him feel.

(Taken from http://www.sean-fournier.com/home/index.html so this is the artist’s own meaning, not my interpretation)*
